Meet Our Founder
Derrick McCoy is a compassionate and down-to-earth licensed acupuncturist, massage therapist, and the visionary behind AcuWords. Combining his background in engineering and business with his holistic healing knowledge, Derrick guides his clients towards inner peace and optimal well-being empowering them to heal and transform their lives.
From his early achievements as a football captain at The McDonogh School and receiving a Congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy to his journey into holistic healing, Derrick's gift for creating rapport and addressing deep challenges led him to develop AcuWords. Derrick is committed to empowering individuals to overcome adversity, reconnect with their bodies, and embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery.

The Chinese believe there is a life force that circulates energy throughout your body. That energy is called Qi. Like blood, that energy has to be flowing in order for you to be healthy. When that energy gets stuck…we have a problem. You may experience this stuckness as headaches, heartache, depression, or all manner of physical symptoms. As an acupuncturist, I have been trained to observe and listen to your body to pinpoint where this imbalance is occurring. Once I am clear on that, I can use what I know about you and how energy moves to restore balance and movement.
Through my years of experience, I observed that the healing….the true medicine, is actually in the words. If I can prepare your soil…your heart and your body to accept those words, I can get the same restorative effect as giving you the needle.
